The development path for Inkspot and e-Science Central

  • 2007

    The creation of e-Science Central and Inkspot

    The e-Science Central project funded by OneNorthEast developed a prototype of e-Science Central and included investigation into sustainable business models and opportunities arising out of the research. The result was Inkspot, founded in March 2008 by Paul Watson, David Leahy, Hugo Hiden and Joanna Berry.

  • 2011

    Technology matures

    Red Hat, the world's leading provider of open source solutions, announced that it is collaborating on the engineering effort within, to tailor the e-Science Central platform particularly for academic scientific and research organisations. Running e-Science Central on Red Hat technology permits applications to scale as required on both private and public clouds such as Amazon.

  • 2012

    Phase Two Expansion

    Sunderland University becomes the first academic institution to commit to using e-Science Central to support its research. Inkspot will have a dedicated office in the newly opened Sciences Building and support pharmacology research and teaching. Read more

  • 2013

    The Next Step

    Inkspot begins working with a large multinational to enhance the features and capabilities of e-Science Central. Support is added for data archives, reporting and organising studies.

  • 2015

    Internet of Things

    Inkspot adds support for Internet of Things analytics so customers can manage a fleet of sensors and extract insights from the data they generate.
